Engineering ownership

Aspect Workforce is a cross-platform workforce application built with React Native and an AWS serverless backend. As Principal Software Architect, I combined application architecture with hands-on implementation across the mobile application and backend during 2024–2025.

The work connected architectural decisions to the code that delivered them: the mobile application, REST APIs, authentication, asynchronous workflows, push notifications, and CI/CD.

Application architecture and REST APIs

The React Native application supports iOS and Android. REST APIs form the interface between the mobile application and the AWS backend.

My engineering scope crossed that interface, covering both the application architecture and implementation of the mobile and backend components. This kept the client and backend parts of the same delivery effort.

Authentication

Authentication uses Cognito and JWT. It was part of the application and API engineering scope alongside the functionality delivered through those APIs.

Asynchronous workflows and notifications

The serverless backend includes event-driven and asynchronous workflows. These sit alongside REST APIs, extending the backend beyond direct mobile requests.

Push notifications connect backend activity with the mobile application. My work covered notifications as part of the wider mobile and backend system.

Production delivery

CI/CD was part of the delivery infrastructure. The project progressed from MVP through production, combining architecture, implementation, and delivery work across the application and backend.
